Health and Safety Policy
Henderson & Taylor (Public Works) Limited have nurtured a culture of total intolerance to accidents within the company. Since 1964 there has never been a serious accident. The management have always led by example and good practice, encouraging all employees to accept nothing less than a zero accident agenda.
Good practice starts with good procedures, developed in house, explained and taught to the whole workforce, but externally audited.
We have always believed that external auditing brings true objectivity to the process.
Our health and safety manual has been developed, amended and improved since 1992.
We have employed the Health and Safety People Ltd since 2005 to assist in this process. They are highly experienced, independent health and safety consultants to the construction industry. Their brief is to ensure that our H & S manual is updated with any new laws or regulations to keep it current with all legislation. They carry out an independent audit of our procedures annually and subsequent to our satisfactorily complying with those procedures, they certify the company for another year. They check our monthly H & S meetings minutes, our records, accident books, first aid certificates and training, fire risk assessments for our offices and workshops. They look at our H & S training schemes and budgets and advise us on how best to proceed.
We have an agreement in place to call them in to audit individual sites at our request or our Client’s if required.
We are registered with CHAS. We are EXOR, Constructionline and Building Register approved.
All of these external bodies check our Health and Safety procedures, manual, and records and they are all satisfied that we comply with all current legislation and regulations pertaining to H & S.
Furthermore, we are ISO9001 accredited. Our quality management systems operate hand in glove with our H&S systems. Again all of our employees are trained and aware of these policies and how the manuals translate into day-to-day action.
Both of internal and external H&S training is documented and certified. In 2009 to date we have sent two of our management team on our four day, full time first aid courses. All of our operatives have attended numerous ‘tool box’ talks wherein the health and safety of both the public and themselves on site is discussed. This is always a two-way dialogue where the employees are encouraged to openly discuss the matter and asked how they thought we could continue to improve.
Every operative carried an ‘Employee’s Safety Booklet (Construction), a copy is attached for information. This is an easy reference, no nonsense booklet which can be referred to by everyone. Everyone must sign to confirm that they have received the booklet and that they will comply with its contents – having read and understood them.
